Successful Rescue and Treatment of Injured Elephant in Ambanpola

After receiving information that an injured elephant, which had been suffering from a leg injury for several days, was lying in a tank in the Ambanpola–Wadurassa area, we proceeded to the location. There, wildlife conservation officers and the Nikaweratiya veterinary unit arrived and administered treatment to the elephant.

Subsequently, an attempt was made to lift the elephant using the support of a JCB, and eventually, the operation was successfully completed. This marks a significant achievement for the Department of Wildlife Conservation, as in many similar cases, it has not been possible to lift fallen elephants back onto their feet.
