After Days, Bhathiya Finally Gets Some Rest… With No Strength Left to Stand, Water Was Drained and He Was Left Lying in the Mud
Treatment for Bhathiya the tusker began yesterday with support from the Sri Lankan Army, and today, a team from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Peradeniya, including Prof. Ashoka Dangolla, also arrived at the location. The water in the pit where the elephant was lying was completely drained to allow him to rest more comfortably. Previously, he had to constantly lift his head above the water just to breathe.
Although an attempt was made to lift him using a crane, Bhathiya was unable to stand. Instead, he was gently tilted to slightly improve blood circulation and left resting in the same place.
Blood test reports have shown no major complications, though there appears to be a minor nutritional deficiency. As of this evening, Bhathiya has started eating well.
It’s crucial that proper diagnosis and correct treatment are now prioritized with close attention from the veterinary team.
We still believe in you, Bhathiya. Until you rise again, we’re right here waiting!
